Barbie Box

Celebration of Women in Sport
Passion Photography Project
(2020)

A 1998 Vancouver Grizzlies Barbie doll, a gift from my father, constantly remided my sister and I that there was space for girls in sports. After high school, I moved to Toronto to pursue sport media, and along the way I’ve met incredible women in the field—coaches, leaders—all deeply committed to their communities. Ruth Handler created Barbie to inspire girls to believe they could be anything. Sandra and I built a life-sized barbie box and had our friends step inside one by one. Just like my Grizzlies doll, they stand as a reminder what it means to proudly work, lead, give back and be a woman in sports. They are someone who little girls across the globe can look up to.
